Graduating seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher who are dependents of a current member of AEA/CTA/NEA may request a scholarship application form from the AEA office.
Completed forms must be turned in to the AEA office by 4:00 PM, Thursday, March 22, 2018.

Mary Allan Fellows Award Nominations

Teachers, here is your chance to honor your colleagues for their passion and hard work. The Antioch Schools Education Foundation is accepting nominations for the eleventh annual “Mary Allan Fellows Award” to recognize outstanding teachers who demonstrate innovation and dedication to the teaching profession that is above and beyond the normally high standards of the AUSD. The Fellows who are chosen will receive $1000 for enhancing academics during the 2018-2019 school year and $250 for personal use. Nominees might include, but are not limited to:

• visionary teachers who have special classroom/school projects in mind, but who do not have the funds to implement or complete the project.
• innovative teachers who have unique ways of empowering students, and designing curriculum to meet the students’ individual needs.
• teacher leaders who are dedicated to working with the entire school community (including parents) to bring out the best in students.

Nomination Forms will be available at the end of February in the following locations:

Nomination Forms and Letters of Recommendation must be received by Friday, April 20, 2018; return information is on the form. Please spread the word, because nominations can also be made by parents and students.

The entire selection process is meant to be a “Celebration of Teachers.”   Reflect on a colleague who has touched your life in a personal way, and to whom you want to express your appreciation. The Mary Allan Fellows Award Dinner will be September 18 from 5:00-7:00 at the Lone Tree Golf and Event Center. Save the date!

More special education students?

Have there been changes at your site or in your district in how students with disabilities are instructed?

Are you a general educator providing instruction to more students with IEPs?

The CTA Special Education Committee has received a flood of questions from educators about changes in how students with disabilities are being provided special education instruction. Recent changes have raised serious concerns for educators about caseload, class sizes, lack of time to provide services to students, increased workload, and lack of involvement in the planning process.

CTA will use this short online survey to collect information from association members about how students with disabilities are being provided special education instruction. Evaluation Process

There seems to have been a lot of confusion this year regarding the evaluation process.

The first thing I suggest is that you familiarize yourself with Article 19 of the contract. It’s on our website in the Resources section.

Here are some of the most common questions that I’m asked:

Does the five (5) evaluation cycle still exist?
Yes, it does, by mutual agreement of the evaluator and the member to be evaluated:  See section 19.3.2 B.

Can you be formally observed and evaluated before you do your Goals and Objectives conference?
No, how could that be possible?  The elements for evaluation of performance will be in accordance with the criteria mutually agreed upon at the initial conference.  See Section 19.3.3

Can my Goals and Objectives be already determined for me by the administrator?
Absolutely NOT!  Goals and Objectives are mutually agreed upon by the evaluator and the evaluatee, not predetermined. See Section 19.3.3.   This is also written at the top of the Goals and Objectives form. The elements used for evaluation of performance will be in accordance with the criteria mutually agreed upon by the evaluator and the evaluatee at the initial conference. See page 111 of the contract.

How many times can they come into my classroom?
There is no number!  Hopefully, the large group visits aren’t disruptive when they do come to visit.
